Everyone has a story and Joanna’s starts in 1954 at the age of 10 when her biggest fan, her mother, encouraged her to enter a newspaper Superman coloring contest which she won. Although her first taste of success was with Crayola’s, her art education has introduced her to many medias. Many years have been spent developing her talents as a successful artist.
Growing up along the shoreline for most of her life, Joanna’s love for coastal activity is finds its way into much of her work. Her fascination for figures, body language, fun, colorful objects and play are captured even in the smallest pieces. Although figurative subjects are one of her favorites, she also gets excited about painting the majestic landscapes from her travels across country or just her small collections at home put into her “still life’s”.
Joanna Burch has shared much of her time and expertise to promote art education with children and adults through organizations such as, Arts from the Heart, after school workshops, China painters of Texas and various art leagues in workshops and seminars. She is a former board member of the Texas Federation of Porcelain Artists of Texas and a member of the China Painting Teachers of Texas. Her memberships also include the Texas Watercolor Society, the Southwestern Watercolor Society and various art leagues that she supports. She has been represented in many competitions, group and one person shows where she has won recognition. Has also been a contributor with various publications.
